An Interview With The Amazing Jayne Rylon

Hello my little kittens.  Since we have been celebrating the release of Midnight Ink, an exciting new anthology between 8 of my favorite authors, I thought I’d continue the party today with New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Jayne Rylon!!!  *throwing celebratory peeps in the air*  You’ll understand the candy in a little bit.  Lol  🙂

KittyKelly: Jayne, start by telling my kittens about your contribution to the Midnight Ink Anthology, Report For Booty.

Jayne: First, thanks for having me, Kitty!  It’s always fun to play with you.  As for Report For Booty, well it’s a reunion story of sorts.  My hero, Burke, starts out the book honorable but a little dense.  When he’s shipped off to war he breaks up with the heroine, Chavon, because he thinks he’s protecting her.  A few years later he’s home again after a medical discharge and sees something he can’t forget in Midnight Ink, a New Orleans tattoo shop.  His name, on her ass, in one of the artist’s portfolios.  Little does Burke know that the artist, Shep (who is the hero of Carrie Ann Ryan’s book in the anthology) is friends with Chavon and might reunite the couple…if he approves of Burke for his friend.

KittyKelly: What made you decide to write a story about a military man and the woman he left behind?

Jayne: I was on Facebook one day…ahem…procrastinating.  While I was there I saw a reader posted a picture of her welcoming her husband home from deployment.  In the background was another woman holding a sign that said, “Private XXXX, Report For Booty!”  From there I knew I had to use that in a book.  I also used to work for the Department of Defense and remembered some stories veterans had told me while I worked there.  It all just came together in my mind when I was approached by the Midnight Ink ladies and asked to join in their project.  I hope readers enjoy how it turned out as much as I have.

KittyKelly: I love tattoos on men or women.  Do you have any and if so are you planning on getting any more?

Jayne: Me too!  Tattoos are awesome.  I do have one, a small one.  It’s a treble clef on my upper left arm.  I used to play piano and clarinet pretty seriously and when I majored in photography instead of music in college I wanted to get something so I wouldn’t forget.  I love my tattoo even though it’s simple and would love to expand it to a half sleeve of all my creative pursuits including writing someday.  I want something bold and colorful now that I don’t work in corporate America anymore.  I also would love a tattoo featuring an underwater landscape and some of my favorite animals to see when SCUBA diving.  Someday!

KittyKelly: For those of you who don’t know Jayne and I share a love of candy.  What is your all-time favorite candy and will you share some with me?

Jayne: OMG.  You know I like you a lot because I would gladly share my candy with you.  I prefer candy that’s close to raw sugar, like cotton candy (MMMM especially odd flavors like banana or orange or green apple), peeps or marshmallows of any kind, and banana runts.  Oh and nerds.  And laffy taffy.  And juju coins.  And… well… it’s easier to list the ones I don’t like (anything with coconut, candy corn, chocolate *gasp*).

KittyKelly: I like my books smutty and full of romance, but I’m curious what is your favorite genre to read?

Jayne: Ohhh good question.  Actually, I read anything and everything from non-fiction biographies to erotica.  B But if I have to pick an absolute favorite, it’s romantic suspense by a mile.  My favorite authors are ones like Suzanne Brockmann, Cindy Gerard, Cherry Adair, Sandra Brown, SE Jakes and others who mix high stakes external conflict with the romantic relationship.  Extra smutty is good too.

KittyKelly: And now for the most important question of them all…cats or dogs?  I trust you know the correct answer.

Jayne: HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO  I have two cats (Bilbo and Frodo) and zero dogs.  Enough said.

When Burke Levine got marching orders, he couldn’t bear to make his girlfriend Chavon a military widow. Years later, discovering his name tattooed on her perfect ass via a New Orleans artist’s portfolio confirms his epic mistake. Will Midnight Ink’s New Year’s Eve party grant them a second chance?

The Midnight Ink anthology released last week and it’s available now at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords and ARe.

Jayne has also been working on several lines of custom shirts celebrating her various series.  There is still time to get in on the Hot Rods shirt.  Check it out here!
