Does it hurt?
By far, this is the question that I get asked the most when people see my tattoos. Does it hurt to get tattooed? Now, you would think that the answer is obvious…um…yeah, getting inked with multiple little needles punching into your skin at a high rate of speed hurts. Having been asked so many times though, I have developed a system of responses depending on my general mood and overall opinion of the person asking.
Does it hurt?
If you’re a friend:
Yeah, but nothing like the first time. When I went to get my very first tattoo I was 19 and dumb. I walked into a tattoo shop all cocky and demanding and asked to get a little black cat silhouette on my lower back…right above my ass. I barely made it through the outline before I was contemplating running the hell out of there with a half done cat on my back. I was sweating, shaking, and having dizzy spells. I’m shocked that I didn’t break down and cry. Luckily, my friends convinced me to stay and once it was all over I VOWED never to get another one again. Note to you all: Angie doesn’t do so well with certain kinds of vows.
Does it hurt?
If you’re a harmless stranger:
Depends on where you get it done, what your pain threshold is, and how much experience you have. When comparing tattoos with others, I’ve found that there are places that hurt more depending on the above listed criteria. For example, getting my shins done was a piece of cake, while getting my calf done was hell on Earth. The worst though, like, embarrassingly so, is a tattoo that I have that very few people see. While getting the outline done, part of the tattoo (and I mean a minuscule part—quarter inch, if that) wrapped around the back of my thigh a little…approaching my ass. It must have been two or three seconds of the needles drilling ink in there and I thought I was going to die. DIE!!! The tattoo was supposed to be a fairly large piece, meant to take up my thigh completely. I never had it finished and my artist has NEVER let me live that down.
Does it hurt?
If you’re someone I dislike:
No, it tickled. Seriously, go get one. Make sure it’s huge, colorful and has a lot of shading. Or sometimes I just give them the raised eyebrow look and say nothing.
In my opinion it’s worth it. A permanent mark of a belief, symbol, homage, or whatever should come with a little pain. If it’s important enough then you will endure it and perhaps do it again.

The Order of the Wolf, Book 1
Wherever there’s a lying, cheating scumbag who’s broken a woman’s heart, Vengeance Dealer Darcy Wells is there. So what if she isn’t the most skilled witch around? She’s only using one spell, which leaves the hapless male suffering tormenting lust for one woman. Her.
The beautiful part? This curse comes equipped with a blinding agent, allowing her a clean getaway. Unrequited lust, coming right up! As far as Darcy is concerned, it’s justice served. Her next target: Raven Glock, rock band bassist and drop-dead-gorgeous sex god.
When Raven lays eyes on the luscious Darcy, he gives her what he promises all the starry-eyed groupies who toss their panties at him—one unforgettable night in his bed. Sex with Darcy is so epic that he forgets his cardinal rule: to get her out before morning.
At the crack of sunrise, Darcy serves Raven a face full of cursed ash. But something goes horribly wrong…and she finds herself magically tethered to one pissed-off werewolf.
Worse, breaking the spell could cost her everything…maybe even her life.
Warning: Sexually explicit language, tattoos, piercings, and giant…um…feet. Wet panties are a given. Author assumes no responsibility for spontaneous ravishment of significant others, pool boys, or local pizza delivery personnel.
